Life is full of little problems that we are generally able to resolve directly. However, when problems are more complicated, having a more defined “process” can make problem solving much more achievable. Usually more complicated problems involve systems or interactions between groups or individuals which may make pinning the actual problem down difficult and then getting any solution implemented almost impossible. With proactive problem solving we give you the tools to help identify the cause of problems and then follow through with the solutions. There are usually a number of possible routes to resolve problems, but it is important to cast the net as widely as possible to consider a varied set of solutions. Brianstorming sessions are good for this as it allows different people to make a contribution, which can both unearth good ideas and helps participants to feel some ownership of the solutions. Solutions have to be evaluated to isolate the most effective route forwards and they have to be implemented. The final step is to evaluate the success of the solution, so that it can either be refined or lessons learned can be applied to the next situation. Every situation will be different, which is why building up a strong process is so important.
