One of the most effective ways of reaching teenagers under the age of 18, who are at risk of getting pregnant within areas of social deprivation, is through the media. Teenagers read magazines, listen to the radio, watch TV and consume vast quantities of specialised media products in their daily lives. This is a Media Workshop designed specifically for Teenage Pregnancy Programmes across the country, aimed particularly at health professionals involved with teenage pregnancy. This programme aims to complement and help health professionals involved in Teenage Pregnancy schemes across the country promote their activities in a positive way within the media to achieve the goals outlined by the Social Exclusion Unit Report on Teenage pregnancy, namely: To reduce the rate of teenage conception, with the aim of halving the rate of under 18 conceptions within 10 years. This Workshop will prepare you for almost every eventuality connected to Teenage Pregnancy issues as well as give you a structure and set of tools to conduct successful media relations in future. We will prepare you for every possible angle of enquiry, relating to the above issues from newspapers, magazines, radio and television as well as give you the confidence to co-operate with the media as and when required. The programme is divided into two - a theory based early morning session followed by a more hands-on, practical, late morning and afternoon session.
