For Communication Leads and Media Assistants
This is a one day training workshop designed specifically for Communications Leads and Media Assistants within Police Forces.
The aim is to maintain, preserve and improve your reputation through positive handling of the media at all times.
The emphasis is not on actually doing media interviews, but on being proactive, PR skills, press Release writing, holding statements, Q&A briefing, journalist resource packs and handling press interviews.
We want to help you manage your reputation and image more effectively, even when things go wrong. The local media are sometimes perceived as having a "culture of blame agenda" when it comes to the public sector and this is why it is important to empower everyone involved with the media — even at arm's length — with the media skills, the Crisis Skills to handle any and every situation which may occur.
However, while it is important to have the Crisis Management skills to handle crises when they occur, another way of turning around this culture of blame is to be proactive with the media.
We want to help you promote yourself and your activities through the media! We want to stop you feeling you are constantly on the "back foot", "fire-fighting" a stream of negative media stories.
This Workshop will address proactivity issues, such as highlighting newsworthy and positive stories which are occurring within the Fire Service and writing them up in an eye catching way.
We cover the whole process of proactivity, from highlighting the idea, writing the press release, making the follow up call to the journalist, to handling the press enquiry and interview.
We aim to help you focus on the Success stories within your Police Force which are newsworthy, but which are possibly not receiving the attention they deserve because you are being forced to be reactive by the local media.
