They say that “time is money”, but whether that is true or not, your own time is really the most valuable thing you have. Managing your time enables you to be more effective and produce more results in less time. The direct benefits are obvious, but there can be many secondary effects such as reducing stress levels or simply a greater satisfaction with life. Most successful people have learned to manage their time effectively and by and large they all use fairly similar techniques to do this. As with anything there are variations that work more for some people than others. But the main thing is finding the system that works for you. A common mistake is treating all tasks as equal and simply trudging down the list of things to be done, getting further and further behind as you work as hard as you can. Good time management has as much to do with what you do not do as with what you do do. Prioritisation and evaluation means that you may be able to discard a number of tasks because they simply are not worth the time they will take. But managing your time is not simply about your system. Much of your time is used or controlled by other people.
