The role of a leader is to achieve company objectives through drawing on their ability to influence, inspire, collaborate, manage and of course, to lead. An essential leadership role and skill must be the ability to empower, develop and motivate their team to ensure ongoing peak performance and encourage retention. Sadly, many leaders fail to tap into the full potential of their direct reports, because leading with a coaching style is missing from their skill set. Leaders who adopt a coaching style find the time to listen to team member’s work related issues and help the person to find their own solutions. This supportive approach encourages the person to think through the problem instead of expecting the leader to instantly provide a solution. This results in the team member taking responsibility for their actions, develops, empowers and motivates them, and provides encouragement for change.
