Fire And Rescue Services Media Workshop

Be prepared and leave the fire fighting to the firemen

This Workshop is tailored for the Area Command Team and other key spokespeople within Fire and Rescue Services. We offer the training in a local Studio or your own premises.

We will help you with those tricky live interviews for both radio and, television as well as local newspapers, at the scene of a major incident, as well as the more day to day media activities such as offering fire safety advice and fire prevention awareness campaigns.

We will help you with:

  • What you can and can't say to the media.
  • How you present yourself, both visually and in terms of what you say about your Fire Service.
  • Studio based interviews, promoting the work of Fire & Rescue Services.
  • Overcoming nerves, while you are pre-occupied with saving lives, but need to speak to the media.
  • Practice both routine incidents (fires, RTAs, rescues) as well as more controversial incidents such as racist attacks, a firebomb through a letter box, or something involving a terrorist bomb — whether you know the full details or you don't.

We will fully explore the range of incidents you may have to comment on to the media, including:

  • Local Safety campaigns
  • When disaster strikes
  • Major incidents
  • Emergency Planning
  • Role of the Local Authority
  • Flooding
  • Rescues
  • Damage limitation

We will tailor the course to your region and ensure that we include scenarios from all areas you cover.
