Every team has a dynamic, and that dynamic is in part generated by the team members, but much of it is the result of the team leader’s ability to balance the various needs of the team members and giving good direction and support to the team as a whole. Whenever you have a group of people there are numerous interactions between the members of the group. You have people with different abilities, talents, and motivations. Building a top team, means getting the best out of every team member and ensuing that there are clear common objectives. Team members can be motivated by competition within the group, or with other teams, or a feeling they need to do their best so as not to let the others down. The list is endless, but a good team leader will recognise what each members motivations are and use these to both enhance the teams performance and also to reward the team members with the results that will please them the most. A top team will result in highly motivated team members, which will present a team leader with the challenge of allowing the team members a good degree of autonomy while still providing clear direction, feedback and cohesion for the team as a whole.
